Need of EE

Every country is putting efforts to integrate environmental concerns with education. According to these countries, EE should not only be a part of the education system but also the political system where actions, policies and plans can be formulated and executed at national level.

Environmental education must be able to assess environmental situation and the conditions leading to the damage of the environment. EE must target the routine and how simple changes in a daily life can make a huge difference to the environment.

Protecting environment is the responsibility of everyone, hence environmental education cannot be confined to one group or society. Every individual must be prepared for saving the environment. It must be a continuous and a lifelong process. Above that environmental education must be practical so that teachings can be implemented directly.

Conserving nature and environment will be much easier if children are taught about depleting resources, environmental pollution, land sliding and degradation and extinction of plants and animals. Education is a sort of investment that turns into a valuable asset over a period of time.

Universities in India focus on teaching, research and training. In more than 20 Universities, different colleges and institutes courses in Environmental Engineering, Conservation and Management, Environmental Health and Social Sciences are taught. 

To promote environmental awareness across the Nation, the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) was established in August 1984 with a support from the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. One of the tasks of the CEE is to put efforts to give due recognition to the role of environmental education. The CEE runs many Educational Programms in this regard.

Because of the societal shifts, today’s children are busy playing indoor games and electronic gadgets. They spend most of their time in watching Television, listening to music, playing video games or surfing Internet or using Computer. They have no time to travel around and to explore the natural world around them. This not only impacts the health of children but also detach them from their surroundings and nature. They are grown up into adults who are least bothered about conserving nature. Raising an environmentally educated generation is also necessary because of the depleting of natural resources.

Students must be encouraged to understand their surroundings and a framework for action plan must be formulated. EE is the need of the day. It must encourage social participation. Hence integrating environment education into a curriculum is a wise option to connect students with the nature right from their childhood.

சுற்றுச்சூழல் கல்வி ஏன் அவசியம்?

ஒவ்வொரு நாடும் கல்வியுடன் சுற்றுச்சூழல் கவலைகளை ஒருங்கிணைக்க முயற்சிகளை மேற்கொண்டு வருகின்றன. இந்த நாடுகளின்படி, EE கல்வி முறையின் ஒரு பகுதியாக மட்டும் இருக்க வேண்டும், ஆனால் தேசிய அளவில் செயல்கள், கொள்கைகள் மற்றும் திட்டங்களை வகுத்து செயல்படுத்தக்கூடிய அரசியல் அமைப்பாகவும் இருக்க வேண்டும்.

சுற்றுச்சூழலைப் பாதுகாப்பது ஒவ்வொருவரின் பொறுப்பாகும், எனவே சுற்றுச்சூழல் கல்வியை ஒரு குழுவிலோ அல்லது சமூகத்திலோ மட்டுப்படுத்த முடியாது. சுற்றுச்சூழலை பாதுகாக்க ஒவ்வொரு தனிமனிதனும் தயாராக வேண்டும். இது ஒரு தொடர்ச்சியான மற்றும் வாழ்நாள் செயல்முறையாக இருக்க வேண்டும். அதற்கு மேல் சுற்றுச்சூழல் கல்வி நடைமுறையில் இருக்க வேண்டும், அதனால் போதனைகளை நேரடியாக செயல்படுத்த முடியும்.

வளங்களை அழிப்பது, சுற்றுச்சூழல் மாசுபாடு, நிலம் சரிவு மற்றும் சீரழிவு மற்றும் தாவரங்கள் மற்றும் விலங்குகளின் அழிவு பற்றி குழந்தைகளுக்கு கற்பித்தால் இயற்கை மற்றும் சுற்றுச்சூழலைப் பாதுகாப்பது மிகவும் எளிதாக இருக்கும். கல்வி என்பது ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட காலத்தில் மதிப்புமிக்க சொத்தாக மாறும் ஒரு வகையான முதலீடு.

நாடு முழுவதும் சுற்றுச்சூழல் விழிப்புணர்வை மேம்படுத்துவதற்காக, சுற்றுச்சூழல் கல்விக்கான மையம் (CEE) ஆகஸ்ட் 1984 இல் இந்திய அரசின் சுற்றுச்சூழல் மற்றும் வன அமைச்சகத்தின் ஆதரவுடன் நிறுவப்பட்டது. CEE இன் பணிகளில் ஒன்று, சுற்றுச்சூழல் கல்வியின் பங்கிற்கு உரிய அங்கீகாரத்தை வழங்குவதற்கான முயற்சிகள் ஆகும். CEE இது சம்பந்தமாக பல கல்வித் திட்டங்களை நடத்துகிறது.

மாணவர்கள் தங்கள் சூழலைப் புரிந்து கொள்ள ஊக்குவிக்கப்பட வேண்டும் மற்றும் செயல் திட்டத்திற்கான ஒரு கட்டமைப்பை உருவாக்க வேண்டும். EE என்பது இன்றைய தேவை. இது சமூக பங்களிப்பை ஊக்குவிக்க வேண்டும். எனவே சுற்றுச்சூழல் கல்வியை ஒரு பாடத்திட்டத்தில் ஒருங்கிணைப்பது மாணவர்களின் குழந்தைப் பருவத்திலிருந்தே இயற்கையுடன் இணைக்க ஒரு புத்திசாலித்தனமான விருப்பமாகும்.

Importance of environmental education 

Every human on this Earth has a role to play for the environment, and it gives us everything we need- shelter, food, water, recreation, etc.

• Environmental education is one of the subjects in the curriculum in schools. When children study the environment and its functions, they develop a sense of understanding of the environment in the early stage of their life.

• It is important to increase the awareness of individuals about the environment. With the help of environmental education, people's knowledge about the environment is instilled into every country's citizens.
